The next few months are shaping up to
be pretty damn nice with all kinds of good stuff coming out. Plenty of
stuff to tide you all over until Warhammer is finally out. Here's a quick
run down of what is out now and what is coming up.
Tabula Rasa Sci-fi themed MMORPG from the guy who
made Ultima Online. It looks like a 3rd person type shooter like Gears of
War but it still plays like an MMO. They just stopped offering the last
set of beta keys, so it looks like it's back into closed beta unless you
preorder. Full game is set to be released on October 16th.
Soma Says: The beta is
fun stuff so far, but I can see this getting old fast. Seems way too buggy
to be going live in just a few weeks so you may wanna hold off on a purchase.
It's still a blast and I could see this tying up a few months as something new.
Lack of PvP options really hurt this one in the long term.
Call of Duty 4: Modern
Warfare Yet another sequel, and
from the videos this
one is smokin' hot. The team who made CoD2 is back again, and after being
console-only on the last installment it's back on the PC. This one hits
November 2nd.
Soma Says: Preordered.
While I was never a huge CoD2 player, I've always played the the single player
and loved it on these games. I'm sure I'll piss around with the MP for a
while on this one too. Really though, this game just looks sweet.
Orange Box: Team Fortress
2 This one kind of snuck up on me, as I
didn't think this was ever gonna be released. Building on the old
Half-Life mod Team Fortress Classic (and the even older quake mode before it),
this is a brand new multi-class fast paced FPS. They're putting it out
with the latest expansion to Half-Life 2, so you get all kinds of other goodies
with the game as well. It's full versions of all the Half-Life stuff so
you don't need to already have any of it. Check out
the videos and the
intros for the characters.
The demo starts on September 17th for preorders through Steam, and the full
version is out October 9th.
Soma Says: Preordered it
through Steam. This is gonna be a huge game, and it's shaping up to be
really competitive. It's not RTCW, but it does have a lot of similarities
and is actually a really good deal with all the other stuff bundled with it.
Enemy Territory: Quake Wars New Enemy Territory game out from
Spam Splash Damage. FPS goodness set in a futuristic
setting that looks like Battlefield 2142 all over again. Usable vehicles
also like BF2142. The
demo is out
now, and the full game is set to be released on October 2nd.
Soma Says: I really
wanted to love this game, but it plays like BF2142 for retarded people. I
still play Enemy Territory and even RTCW once in a while, but this one doesn't
live up to either of those games. RTCW 2 is under development, and
thankfully Splash Damage doesn't have anything to do with it.
